Note: where the fingering is indicated in these editions, it is just a guide and that one’s own judgment and personal taste should be the main factor. The trills usually begin on the upper note, but one must decide each case impartially on its own merits. The tempo is too dependent on the interpretation to be arbitrarily fixed. Every artist will find for his or her self the correct proportion and logic for their interpretation in the course of a gradual and progressive development, according to individual talent as an artist. I have therefore not indicated any phrasing so that the player can explore the direction which he/she feels is natural to take.
